artist bio:
bang bang
Bang Bang marks the union of two of Cape Towns youngest, but most experienced house producers, Matt Prehn and Matthew Loots (aka Matthew F).
They met in high school, competing for school DJ sets. They, each in their own right, made a name for themselves on the local DJ circuit playing in the top
clubs cape town has to offer (Unity, Pure, Gallery, Detour, Rythm Divine, 96 degrees), Having played with internationals such as Timo Maas, Judge Jules and
Chris Fortier, all before graduating high school. After high school they went their seperate ways travelling and making contacts overseas. In 2002, their
paths crossed again as they started studying sound engineering and music production together at City Varsity, both excelling as top students. They started
manifesting their passion for house music as soon as they got hold of a sequencer.
As they graduated college they began mixing live bands on the side, between them having done sound for Wendy Oldfield, Watershed, Louise Carver, Mandoza
and Bed on Bricks to name a few.
January, 2006, Table mountain blazes on fire, and (on a slightly hung over morning) Bang Bang is born. Their first track they wrote that day (Fire Funk) was
signed within the week to Agave records. Their follow up soon after 'In the Bowl' (written in the C.T. city bowl) was signed to Onethirty Recordings. From
this sudden surge of energy, they went from strength to strength, writing tracks at a rapid rate. They started getting support from the top local jocks
(Dino Moran, Craig de Sousa, Nick Matthews). Also starting to infiltrate the local compilations such as the upcoming Mutha FM CD release as well as the 2nd
Good Hope FM Nightwatchmen CD. They will also soon be hosting a local radio show on Mutha FM showcasing top local house artists and DJ's.
They have also recently launched their live act with Jason Graham on vocals, Matthew Loots on Bass and Matt Prehn on the decks.
Their sideline production projects have won the national 'Lady Lea' remix competition and have mixed and been featured on the Young Designers Emporium CD release
on 'Only God Can Judge Me Records' .
Their future aspirations include an online record label of their own, eventually becoming a full label releasing vinyl each month, as well as setting up base in
america and continuing to push their sound. When not engineering , DJing or kicking back in the studio, they can be found Throwing Name in and around Cape Towns nightlife!!Peace
